Abstract:

Papers reflect the Alliance for Technology Access' role in promoting access to computers and education for children with disabilities. Collection includes articles and press releases; conference programs; financial and progress reports, including 1990-91 annual report; grant applications to the US Department of Education; legal and financial documents, including tax documents, by-laws, articles of incorporation and 501(c)(3) papers; miscellaneous items including correspondence from Vice-President George Bush and a dissertation by Robert Dodds Glass covering history and impact of the ATA; pamphlets and profiles; policies and procedures, including personnel policies. Includes materials written by Harvey Pressman and Jackie Brand, among others.
Videocassette is a promotional video titled "Quality of life: Alliance for Technology Access" produced in 1995.

ATA (Alliance for Technology Access), originally known as the NSEA (National Special Education Alliance), began in 1987 as a collaborative effort between the DCCG (Disabled Children's Computer Group) and Apple Computer. The organization was established to provide children with disabilities with computers and to design computer technology for those with disabilities. The NSEA was re-named the Foundation for Technology Access when it became a nonprofit organization in 1989. As of 1994, organization has been operating under the name Alliance for Technology Access.
